1953 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible
Despite new looks outside, the ’53 Chevys were largely 1949-52 underneath. This sporty Bel Air convertible cost $2,175.00. Some 24,047 sun lovers bought one.
The 1953 Chevy engine continued to feature the straight 6 which was underpowered. In spite of its lack of power the car remained very dependable and the lines of the car are beautiful.
Ford’s V-8, which was first built in 1932, was superior and therefore Ford pulled far ahead of Chevy in sales. It was not until 1955 that Chevrolet began to use a V-8.
