1956 Mercedes Benz 190 SL
The first high volume Daimier-Benz sports car, and one of the firm's best known US models in the 1950's, followed Austin-Healy/Triumph TR practice in using mass production components, in this case, the four cylinder engine, running gear and shortened floor-pan from the Type 180 sedan series.
Styling was deliberately chosen for close identification with the exotic 300SL, and featured a similar low grille, long hood, wheel opening eyebrows and generally rounded contours.
Not really intended for competition use, and too heavy for its engine anyway, but a pleasant tourer with a top speed capability of slightly more than 105 miles per hour.
