Mercury

1953 Mercury Monterey Convertible

The ’53 Mercury Monterey convertible was part of Ford Motor Company’s 50th Anniversary hoopla.

Like its brother, the 1953 Ford Convertible, the only difference between Ford and Mercury was that Mercury was a little larger, fancier and more expensive ($300.00 more).

The Mercury & Ford engines and transmissions were the same. Because their automatic transmissions were a two-speed transmission that was far inferior to the General Motors Hydramatic four speed transmission, Ford & Mercury suffered in competing against the General Motors cars.
