1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser
Mercury added a Turnpike Cruiser convertible to its bigger, gaudier, all new 1957's to win Indy 500 pace car honors. Regular ragtop Cruisers sold for $4,103, but only 1,265 were made.
Production models simply dripped with the latest in gimmickry, including a skylight dual curve windshield, pushbutton Merc-O-Matic drive, a memory seat which was adjustable to any one of 49 positions, rubber instrument bezels, special starter button, clock odometer, sliding door locks, and gold anodized inserts in the upper, rear fender's concave section, which led to the taillights.
This car was once owned by the widow of Ernest Hemmingway. |
