1953 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible
"Make a date with a Rocket 8."Â That's how the ads of the year described Olds ownership.
The '53 Olds was the first to offer power brakes and power steering. The front of the car was completely restyled and the Oldsmobile name appeared stamped in block letters on the center bumper bar.
The chrome slash used on the rear fender of some models now had a slimmer look and more of an "S" shape to it. The bright gravel guards, now used on all models, were also thinner and curvier.
The ornaments below the headlights, which housed the front parking and directional lights, were more rounded in appearance. The rocket hood ornament became a triple-engine type, with jet pods at the tip of each outspread wing. |
